This bitmap image format was created for storing images taken in HDR mode, which provides a high dynamic contrast ratio. It may have either a 32- or 16-bit pixel structure. It is used for high-quality graphics with rich bitmap images, with or without lossy compression.

This format has the same color structure as RGB, but it includes an alpha channel that is used to display various levels of transparency. The transparency value is set from 0 to 1, where 1 corresponds to opacity. It is described using the CSS3 programming language.
